We have a great opportunity for an Instrument Technician to join our Production team here at Bristol Water.

As an Instrument Technician you will repair, install, operate and maintain plant and equipment associated with operational processes within water treatment and distribution.

 

What you’ll be doing?

This is a crucial role within our Production Team, as you will be responsible for operating, maintaining and repairing plant and equipment to ensure process cost and quality is not compromised in the production of our water within our treatment works.

Our Production team is responsible for the treatment and supply of water for 365 days of the year, 7 days a week, 24 hrs a day.

 

Day to day you’ll be...

  • Ensuring health, safety and environmental standards are always maintained.
  • Maintain instrumentation, control, telemetry and telecommunications equipment in accordance with an appropriate maintenance programme, carrying out repairs and modifications as necessary, to ensure that the equipment provides accurate information and data on the relevant site.
  • Maintain all types of electronic, electrical, mechanical, chemical, pneumatic and hydraulic elements of the workings of any plant.
  • Respond to reported faults, identify and diagnose the cause of the fault or abnormality, carrying out a site visit where necessary and carry out tests as required, to quickly and accurately establish the most appropriate remedy.
  • Carry out repairs and / or modifications on any instrumentation or process plant as required.
  • Following installation, ‘set up’ and commission the instrumentation and process plant by calibration and configuration.
  • Preparation and submission of reports on maintenance and repairs and in respect of modifications, submit reports and drawings as necessary to comply with regulatory requirements and to ensure that the company database is accurate and up to date.
  • Source and order replacements for instruments and process plant as necessary to ensure that the technology in use is up to date in terms of industry developments and standards.

 

What we are looking for …

  • Significant experience of operations and maintenance within a plant environment.
  • Someone from a process plant or factory production environment.
  • HNC or higher in an Engineering discipline or apprenticeship in Mechanical, Electrical or Instrumentation Engineering
  • You will need to be comfortable working in confined spaces and to be able to wear breathing apparatus and pass relevant medicals.
  • Computer literate and familiarity with MS office software packages, SCADA control and telemetry systems.
  • Someone who is a team player with a hardworking and flexible attitude.

As an Instrument Technician, you will need to be willing to work additional hours where required, including weekends and back holidays, in addition to participating in a 24-hour standby rota. There is no additional overtime to be paid within this role.
